01How does Sound Like work?
You search for a song or generate any song by title and artist. We either pull from a hand-curated catalog of well-known tones, or we research the rig from public sources (rig rundowns, interviews, gear forums) using automated web research. Then a deterministic engine translates those source settings — knob positions, source amp type, source pickups — into the settings you should use given your amp and guitar.
02Why doesn't the tone sound exactly like the record?
A recorded tone has many ingredients we can't model from text: the specific guitar, the specific amp serial number, the microphone, the room, the EQ at mixdown, the player's pick attack, and (especially) the player's hands. Sound Like gives you a high-quality starting point. From there, dig in by ear — adjust by half-steps, listen for the part you want, and trust your ears.
03What gear does Sound Like know about?
The catalog currently covers ~4,400 guitars and ~1,800 amps, sourced from Fender, Gibson, Marshall, Mesa Boogie, Vox, Orange, PRS, Friedman, ENGL, Soldano, EVH, Blackstar, Peavey, Matchless, Dr. Z, Supro, Line 6, and many more. We're continuously adding to it. If your specific model isn't there, pick the closest family — the rule engine works on amp family (Fender / Marshall / Mesa / Vox / etc.) and pickup type (single coil / humbucker / P-90 / filtertron), not the exact model.
04What if my song isn't in the catalog?
Type the song and artist into the "Generate any tone" box. The app will research the song's rig using public sources and dial it in for your gear. This costs us a little per request, so popular requests are cached — the second player to ask for the same song gets the result instantly.
05I think a tone is wrong. Can I report it?
Yes — use the in-app Feedback form (Profile → Feedback), or email [email protected] with the song, artist, what we suggested, and what you think it should be (or a link to a reliable source). We curate this manually and corrections are very welcome.
06Does Sound Like work without an internet connection?
The tuner, metronome, and chord & scale library work offline. Searching curated tones, generating new tones, and syncing your rig require a connection to our backend.
07Do I need an account?
In the iOS and Android apps, yes — you sign in with an email address so your saved rig, profile, and saved tones sync across devices. On the web you can browse and try tones anonymously; your gear setup is saved in your browser via localStorage.
08Is Sound Like free?
Right now, yes — everything. We're in early access and every Pro feature is free for a limited time while we build with our first players. When the promo ends, the tuner, metronome, chord & scale library, and a limited number of tone matches stay free; unlimited tone matching moves to Sound Like Pro ($7.99/month or $49.99/year with a 7-day free trial — prices shown in-app and may vary by region). Nothing you saved goes away.
09Is the app affiliated with Fender, Gibson, Marshall, etc.?
No. Sound Like is independent and not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by any guitar, amplifier, pickup, or pedal manufacturer. Brand names are referenced solely to describe gear in a factual manner. All trademarks belong to their respective owners.
10How do I delete my account or data?
Email [email protected] from the address on your account and we'll delete your account and the personal data associated with it (email, saved rig, profile, saved tones). To clear what's stored locally in the web app (your gear setup, the anonymous analytics cookie), clear your browser's cookies and localStorage for soundlike.deltametricsai.com.
